The DORIS project has been officially endorsed under the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021–2030, marking a significant milestone and strengthening its international visibility.
Coordinated by Atlantic Technological University with partners across Europe, DORIS develops modular biorefinery solutions to help fisheries and aquaculture SMEs convert by-products and waste into valuable bio-based products, supporting circularity and a more sustainable blue economy.
This endorsement recognises DORIS’ contribution to innovative, resource-efficient ocean solutions and opens new opportunities for global collaboration and impact.
Within DORIS, Lodz University of Technology advances the valorisation of finfish waste by developing innovative routes based on anaerobic digestion and supercritical CO₂ extraction—transforming marine by-products into sustainable value streams. The Polish team is led by Dr hab. Vignesh Kumaravel, in collaboration with Prof. Anna Masek and Dr hab. Sebastian Borowski, with research funded by the National Centre for Research and Development.
