The DORIS project (Development of Modular and Mobile By-Product and Wastes Biorefinery Valorisation Systems) has been selected as one of 24 projects recommended for funding under the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership’s second transnational call: 24 Projects Recommended for Funding.
Empowering EU Blue SMEs with Mobile and Modular Biorefinery Solutions
Focusing on blue bioresources, DORIS aims to develop mobile and modular biorefinery systems to valorise fisheries and aquaculture waste, promoting circular economy solutions for SMEs across European sea basins. The project seeks to revolutionize the processing of fisheries and aquaculture by-products and waste across the Mediterranean, Black Sea, Baltic Sea, North Sea, and Atlantic Ocean.
Coordinated by the Atlantic Technological University (ATU), Ireland, the project brings together a strong international consortium, including the International Centre for Research on Innovative Bio-based Materials (ICRI-BioM) at Politechnika Łódzka (TUL), Poland, where Dr hab. Vignesh Kumaravel leads the Polish team in finfish waste valorization. Other partners include Norsk institutt for bioøkonomi (Norway), Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (Greece), and Université libre de Bruxelles (Belgium).
DORIS will help unlock the potential of marine by-products, enabling decentralised, cost-effective waste valorisation and fostering sustainable innovation in the blue economy.
